Israeli, U.S. researchers develop deep brain stimulation method to improve memory

JERUSALEM, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli and U.S. researchers have developed a new method of deep brain stimulation during sleep to improve memory consolidation, the Tel Aviv University (TAU) said in a statement on Tuesday.

To develop the new method, described in a study published by the journal Nature Neuroscience, the researchers first proved that the human brain strengthens long-lasting memories by coordinating the hippocampus and frontal cortex during sleep.

Israeli PM, Egyptian president discuss deadly border shootout over phone

JERUSALEM/CAIRO, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed on Tuesday the shootout that killed three Israeli soldiers and one Egyptian policeman, reiterating their commitment to security coordination.

During a phone call, Sisi offered his "deep condolences" over the deadly shooting at the Sinai desert border on Saturday, Netanyahu's office said in a statement.

Israel to face unprecedented challenges in war with Iran, says defence minister

06 June 2023; MEMO: Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said on Monday that Israel will face unprecedented challenges during any war with Iran and its proxies, including Hezbollah, local media have reported.

"If, God forbid, a war occurs, the Israeli home front is expected to face challenges the likes of which we have never known in our 75 years of existence," the Times of Israel reported Gallant as saying. "This requires us to be prepared in advance, with optimal preparation."

Speaking to Israeli Channel 14, Amidror called for the Israeli army to raise readiness to the highest level for a war against Lebanon.

Israel accuses UN nuclear watchdog of 'capitulating' to Iran

04 June 2023; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the International Atomic Energy Agency on Sunday of ineffectually policing Iran's nuclear activities and suggested the UN watchdog risked becoming politicised and irrelevant, Reuters reports.

The unusual criticism followed an IAEA report last week that Iran had provided a satisfactory answer on one case of suspect uranium particles and re-installed some monitoring equipment originally put in place under a now-defunct 2015 nuclear deal.

Israel demands Egypt help in full probe of deadly attack at border

JERUSALEM, June 4 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday called the killing of three soldiers by a member of the Egyptian security services a terrorist attack and demanded a full joint investigation with Cairo.

Egypt says it is working with Israel to investigate the incident which occurred on Saturday.

"Israel relayed a clear message to the Egyptian government. We expect that the joint investigation will be exhaustive and thorough," Netanyahu told his cabinet in televised remarks.

Egyptian policeman, 3 Israeli soldiers killed in gunfire on Israel-Egypt border

JERUSALEM/CAIRO, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Three Israeli soldiers and a member of Egyptian security forces were killed early on Saturday in a shootout along the border between Israel and Egypt, according to the two countries' military statements.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that the assailant who killed the three soldiers was an Egyptian policeman. He first killed two soldiers, a man and a woman, who were on duty in a border post and gunned down a third during an exchange of fire hours later when a manhunt was underway.
