MUMBAI, Jan 8 (NNN-PTI) – Indian Police filed a first information report (FIR) against a woman, for holding “Free Kashmir” placard, during a protest at Gateway of India, late Tuesday, in Mumbai.

“We have filed a case against Mahek Mirza Prabhu, under Section 153b (Imputation, assertions prejudicial to national interest) under IPC (Indian Penal Code),” a city police official said.

So far, the police are scanning CCTV footage and other video evidences to get more details, but have not called her for a statement.

07 Jan 2019; MEMO: A snake was slipped into a Palestinian family’s car by an Israeli soldier during a routine search of the vehicle in the West Bank, the Jerusalem Post has reported. The soldier stopped Nidal Sayid while he was driving with his family in his taxi at a checkpoint located at the Beit Furik junction in eastern Nablus, and apparently slipped a snake inside a bottle into the vehicle.

07 Jan 2019; MEMO: Senior officials in US President Donald Trump’s administration have reportedly commenced drawing up potential economic sanctions against Iraq after the premier threatened to do so in response to Iraq’s parliament voting to expel US forces from the country.

Washington, Jan 6 (PTI) President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to impose "very big" sanctions on Iraq after its Parliament called on the US military to leave the country for assassinating top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in a drone attack in Baghdad.

The Iraqi Parliament on Sunday voted to expel the US troops from its territory which have been there to help the Iraq dispensation fight the Islamic State terror group.

Some 5,000 US soldiers are in Iraq as part of the international coalition against the IS terror group.

New Delhi, Jan 6 (PTI) Delhi Congress president Subhash Chopra on Monday demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the attack on students and teachers at the Jawaharlal Nehru University a day ago, saying the country "did not witness" such violence even during the British rule.

Addressing a public meeting at Patparganj, Chopra claimed that people of Delhi were living in fear after masked men attacked JNU students and teachers on Sunday evening.

Pune, Jan 6 (PTI) Members of various students and youth organisations staged a demonstration at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) here on Monday evening to denounce the violence at the JNU campus in New Delhi.

Maharashtra Minister and Congress leader Vishwajeet Kadam also took part in the protest.

Holding placards and shouting slogans, the agitators took part in the protests and condemned the attack on the JNU students and teachers.

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) Under fire from students and faculty members for not doing enough when they were brutally attacked by a masked mob on campus, Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar on Tuesday urged students to put the past behind and return to the varsity's premises.

In a brief statement, Kumar said, "Our heart goes out to all injured students. The incident (violence) is unfortunate. I would like to tell students that JNU campus is a secure place.

"I urge all students to come back to the campus. Let us put the past behind."

Hyderabad, Jan 7 (PTI) Condemning the police for filing cases against students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) injured in recent violence, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said trespass and attempt to murder cases should be booked against those responsible for the incidents.

He also demanded that the vice-chancellor of JNU should quit and go if there is any shame left over the violence as he was supposed to be the guardian of the students.

PARIS, Jan 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Both Iran and the United States must observe a convention obliging states to preserve cultural sites, the UN’s cultural agency said, after President Donald Trump threatened to target Iran’s cultural heritage.

UNESCO director-general Audrey Azoulay highlighted that both Tehran and Washington had signed a 1972 convention prohibiting states from taking “any deliberate measures which might damage directly or indirectly the cultural and natural heritage” of other states.
