India: 28 hectares of govt land vacated within 20 days in Kanpur

Kanpur: In the past 20 days, as many as 28 hectares of government land worth Rs 320 crore has been cleared.The land was vacated between April 1 and 20.

11.5346 hectare land worth Rs 312.50 crore of KDA, 14.407 hectares of land worth Rs 3.06 crores of Revenue Department, 0.5400 hectare land of Bilhaur tehsil worth Rs 2.97 crore, 1.666 hectares of land worth Rs 1.56 crore in Ghatampur.

The largest share is of KDA. After this, encroachments have been removed from government land in Revenue Department, Ghatampur and Bilhaur Tehsils.

India: Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi Masjid issue: HC dismisses plea challenging civil court order

Allahabad, Apr 21 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Thursday dismissed the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid's plea challenging a Varanasi court's order to appoint an advocate as a court commissioner to inspect the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir-Gyanvapi Masjid complex.

It also dismissed the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid's plea against the civil court's another order by which it restrained interference in the worship of deities at the Visheswar Nath Mahadev Mandir in Varanasi.

India: UP CM Adityanath orders more jails and more barracks

Lucknow, Apr 21 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday ordered the construction of new jails and more barracks in the existing ones to deal with overcrowding.

He said there should be a facility of sanitary napkins, dispensers, and incinerators at the women's help desk in prisons.

India: Kanpur's two doctors suspended for practising privately

Kanpur: A doctor couple from the Kanpur Medical College has been suspended for practising privately.

The senior doctor and his wife have been suspended after the Income Tax Department raided their home, last month.

They have been transferred to Banda Medical College now.

While Dr Gupta was a Neuro Surgeon at GSVM Medical College and his wife was an assistant professor in the Pathology Department.

The principal of the college, Dr Sanjay Kala has also sought clarification from the doctors for private practice and notice has been issued.

India: UP govt mulls 'cow sanctuaries' in 30 districts

Lucknow, Apr 20 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government is mulling over setting up "cow sanctuaries" in 30 districts and adding to its existing capacity to keep abandoned cattle, a senior official said on Wednesday.

The move aims at tackling the stray cattle menace, which had snowballed into a major issue in the recently held Assembly polls.

India: No religious procession in UP to be taken out without permission: Adityanath

Lucknow, Apr 19 (PTI) Amid incidents of violence during festivals in some states, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that no religious procession should be taken out without permission and that usage of loudspeakers should not inconvenience others.

With Eid festival and Akshaya Tritiya likely to fall on the same day next month and many other festivals lined up in the coming days, Adityanath said the police needs to be extra cautious.

India: Man arrested for raping 3-year-old in UP's Bulandshahr

Bulandshahr (UP), Apr 18 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly raping his three-year-old niece in a village under Anoopshahr Police Station in the district, police said on Monday.

In a complaint, the girl's mother claimed that upon returning home on Sunday, she caught her brother-in-law in the act of raping her minor daughter who was alone at home.

When she raised an alarm, the accused thrashed her. The girl's father then caught hold of the accused but he threatened him and fled, according to the FIR.

India: AIMIM urges Azam Khan to join party

Prayagraj (UP), Apr 17 (PTI) Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has urged former Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan to join the party, days after a close aide of the leader accused the Samajwadi Party of ignoring him.

"You are requested to join the AIMIM so that BJP and the SP could be eliminated from Uttar Pradesh," said AIMIM state spokesperson Mohammad Farhan in a letter to the Samajwadi Party MLA.

India: BJP govt ruined health services in UP: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Apr 17 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the ruling BJP of "ruining" the health services in the state, alleging that poor are "dying" due to lack of treatment.

"The BJP government has ruined the health services in the state. People were orphaned during the coronavirus pandemic. Even today, there is no sign of improvement and chaos is prevailing," he alleged.
