Israel prosecutors call for extending solitary detention of Sheikh Raed Salah

09 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli public prosecution yesterday submitted a request to extend the solitary confinement of the head of the Islamic Movement in Israel, Raed Salah, for additional six months.

Salah's lawyer, Khaled Zabarka, told local media that the request was submitted "on behalf of the prison authority to the Beersheba District Court," adding that the court session was set for today.

Israeli warplanes carry out strikes in Gaza

07 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli fighters have carried out several airstrikes in multiple places on Friday night in the north of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian security sources have reported.

The Israeli bombing targetted a hill in the northern Gazan city of Jabalia, known as the Civil Administration site, where the Palestinian resistance has a military base.

Palestinian sources reported that three Palestinian homes were affected by the Israeli attacks; one was directly hit by large shrapnel.

Bahraini senior diplomat visits Israel for bilateral ties

JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain's Undersecretary for Political Affairs in the Foreign Ministry Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa arrived in Israel on Sunday morning and started his four-day visit.

The Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement that the senior Bahraini diplomat has scheduled meetings with Israel's President Isaac Herzog and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.

"The undersecretary will also meet with various groups representing Israeli civil society, universities and research institutes to strengthen ties between Israel and Bahrain," the statement read.

Israel PM: Lebanon responsible for attacks, Hezbollah or not

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel’s prime minister said Sunday he holds the Lebanese government responsible for rocket fire launched from its territory, whether the Hezbollah militant group launched the weapons or not.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s comments came days after one of the heaviest flareups in violence between Israel and Hezbollah in several years and indicated Israel could expand its response if the rocket fire continues.

“The country of Lebanon and the army of Lebanon have to take responsibility (for) what happens in its backyard,” Bennett told his Cabinet.

Israel: 'We do not intend to let Hezbollah toy with us': Gantz

07 Aug 2021; MEMO: After an exchange of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz announced on Friday that the Israeli army does not intend to let Hezbollah "toy" with it, The Times of Israel reported.

Gantz also warned that Israel is ready to worsen the dire situation of Hezbollah and Lebanon if calm was not maintained in the south of Israel.

Indian Air Force Chief flies sortie in F-15 fighter jet in Israel

New Delhi, Aug 6 (PTI) Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria flew a sortie in an F-15 fighter aircraft in Israel on Thursday apart from holding wide-ranging talks with his Israeli counterpart Maj Gen Amikam Norkin on further boosting bilateral military cooperation, officials said.

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS) reached Israel on Tuesday on a three-day visit from the United Arab Emirates.

Israel says strikes in Gaza in response to arson balloons

JERUSALEM, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli air force on Friday night carried out airstrikes on the northern Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday.

The Israeli attack came in response to continual launches of arson balloons from the Gaza Strip into Israel on Friday, the IDF added.

The Israeli fighter jets thus struck a military compound and rocket launching site of the Palestinian organization Hamas, according to the Israeli military.

Covid-19: Israel doing world a ‘great service’ with booster shots, says PM Bennett

JERUSALEM, Aug 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that Israel was doing the world a “great service” by administering Covid vaccine booster shots, despite the World Health Organization’s plea for a moratorium.

Nearly 60 percent of Israel’s 9.3 million people have had two jabs, mostly of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, with the government recently rolling out a third shot for the over-60s.

The WHO has called for a moratorium on booster shots until at least the end of September in order to address inequalities in global dose distribution.

US State Department calls on Israel not to evict Sheikh Jarrah families

06 Aug 2021; MEMO: The US State Department has urged Israel to refrain from evicting Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah area of occupied East Jerusalem. Nevertheless, spokesman Ned Price told reporters on Thursday that the department believes that the proposal offered by an Israeli court this week is a matter for the Israeli and Palestinian parties to consider.

Israel ready to attack Iran, defense minister says

05 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli defense minister said Tel Aviv is "ready to attack Iran", adding Iran represented "a global challenge", reported Anadolu Agency.

Benny Gantz's comments came in an exclusive interview with the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth published on Thursday.

"Iran seeks to pose a multi-front challenge to Israel by building up its power in Lebanon and Gaza, deploying militias in Syria and Iraq, and establishing supporters in Yemen," Gantz said.
