Israel: Former Chief Rabbi Of Israel Dies From Covid-19

JERUSALEM, Apr 13 (NNN-MA’AN) – A former Israeli chief rabbi has died, after contracting the COVID-19, Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said today, Monday.

Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron was the country’s highest-profile death from the pandemic.

Bakshi-Doron, 79, who served from 1993 to 2003, as the state’s top chaplain for Sephardim, or Jews of Mena descent, died late on Sunday, to complications from the respiratory virus, in a Jerusalem hospital.

“Tragically, Rabbi Bakshi-Doron contracted the virus and doctors’ efforts to save him did not succeed,” Netanyahu said.

Dubai Health To Start Treating COVID-19 Patients With Blood Plasma

DUBAI, Apr 13 (NNN-BNA) – Dubai Health Authority (DHA), is set to start using blood plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients, to treat critical COVID-19 cases, following the UAE’s announcement that it will adopt this treatment method. The DHA will implement the treatment, known as convalescent plasma therapy, during the course of this week.

WASHINGTON (AP) — By the time President Donald Trump first spoke publicly about the coronavirus, it may already have been too late.

Interviewed at Davos, a gathering of global elites in the Swiss Alps, the president on Jan. 22 played down the threat posed by the respiratory virus from China, which had just reached American shores in the form of a solitary patient in Washington state.

“We have it totally under control,” Trump said on CNBC. “It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

Turkey quarantines 14,000 citizens returning from abroad

12 April 2020; MEMO: Turkey has quarantined nearly 14,000 citizens who came from abroad as part of measures to stem the spread of novel coronavirus, Anadolu Agency reported a minister as saying on Saturday.

A total of 13,968 citizens are under quarantine at the dormitories across 63 provinces, said Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Kasapoglu who oversees student dormitories in the country.

Coronavirus death toll passes 75,000 in Europe: AFP tally

Paris, Apr 12 (AFP/PTI) More than 75,000 people have died from the coronavirus in Europe, with 80 percent of the fatalities occurring in Italy, Spain, France and Britain, according to an AFP tally at 0945 GMT Sunday compiled from official sources.

With a total of 75,011 deaths from 909,673 infections, Europe is the hardest-hit continent in the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed at least 109,133 people worldwide.

Europe's most affected country is Italy with 19,468 deaths, followed by Spain with 16,972, France with 13,832 and Britain with 9,875.

India: Lockdown extension meaningful if COVID-19 testing is intensified

Lucknow, Apr 12 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that the extension of the ongoing nationwide lockdown will be meaningful only if COVID-19 testing is intensified and people get access to essential items.

"The demand to extend the lockdown will be meaningful only if COVID-19 testing is intensified, health workers get protection and the public gets access to essential items, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: Baraat stuck in Aligarh for three weeks due to lockdown

Aligarh, Apr12 (PTI) Savitri cannot go to her marital home despite the baraat waiting for three weeks and some baraat members have started to lose patience. But no one is able to do anything and Savitri does not say much but she must be confused. Vidhipur villagers say none of them would ever forget this marriage.

Savitri's baraat arrived on March 21 and it was to return to Dhanbad district in Jharkhand on March 23, but then the nationwide lockdown was announced and it got stuck, along with the bride and the groom.
