Egypt sends 27 tons of cholera vaccines to Lebanon

9 Nov 2022; MEMO: An Egyptian plane carrying 27 tons of medical supplies and vaccines arrived in Beirut on Wednesday as part of efforts to combat a cholera outbreak in Lebanon, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"The supplies will be distributed to hospitals where cholera patients are being treated," Health Minister, Firas Al-Abiad, told a press conference.

Egyptian Ambassador, Yasser Alawi, said the aid plane follows talks between President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi and Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati.

US, EU plan new pledge targeting oil and gas methane emissions - document

SHARM EL SHEIKH, Nov 9 (Reuters) - The United States and European Union plan to unveil a joint agreement this week to step up efforts to reduce emissions of the potent greenhouse gas methane from the fossil fuel sector, and are hoping other nations will sign up.

A draft of the pledge, seen by Reuters, said the United States and EU will agree to target the energy sector with both domestic and international measures, such as policies to stop routine venting and flaring of natural gas, and require companies to fix leaks in their infrastructure.

Developed countries should fulfill climate finance promise: Chinese envoy

UN Chief announces $3.1bn disaster action plan at COP27

08 Nov 2022; MEMO: UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, announced a disaster action plan on Monday for an early warning system against climate change.

Speaking at the UN climate summit COP27 in Egypt's seaside city of Sharm El-Sheikh, Guterres said the plan calls for initial new targeted investments of $ 3.1 billion between 2023 and 2027 – roughly six per cent of the requested $50 billion in adaptation financing.

Invest in Africa to save the globe from climate change, says Kenyan Pres Ruto

SHARM EL SHEIKH (Egypt), Nov 8 (NNN-KBC) — Kenyan President William Ruto has asked developed nations to invest in Africa to save the globe from the adverse effects of climate change.

He said there are opportunities on the continent to produce wind power, geothermal electricity and solar energy.

In his address at the ongoing COP27 in Egypt, the President cited the case of East Africa whose hydroelectric power potential is 100,000 megawatts. He insisted the world can no longer afford to power its industrialisation using dirty energy.

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — The world should confront climate change the way it does nuclear weapons, by agreeing to a non-proliferation treaty that stops further production of fossil fuels, a small island nation leader urged Tuesday.

The proposal by Tuvalu came as vulnerable nations pushed for more action and money at international climate talks in Egypt, while big polluters remained divided over who should pay for the damage industrial greenhouse gas emissions have done to the planet.

World leaders open climate talks in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh

World leaders gathered in Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday for UN climate summit COP27 to discuss ways of tackling climate change, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Addressing the Summit, which officially began on Sunday, Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, called on world leaders to act with urgency to implement their commitments.
