Turkey, Pakistan sign shipbuilding pact

30 Mar 2021; MEMO: Pakistan and a Turkish shipbuilder yesterday signed two contracts worth $33.46 million for the procurement of four azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboats (LNG compatible) and two pilot boats, Pakistan Today reports.

The agreements were signed between Port Qasim Authority (PQA) and Sanmar Shipyards, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.

Sanmar, Turkey's leading tugboat builder will deliver the vessels within 12 months.

Pakistan: Chinese company starts beer production in Balochistan for Chinese workers

Islamabad, Mar 31 (PTI) A Chinese liquor company which was granted a licence in 2018 for making beer has formally started production at its plant in Pakistan's Balochistan province, the first such alcohol firm from China to establish its unit in the Islamic nation, according to media reports on Wednesday.

Pakistan PM, Saudi Crown Prince discuss bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Mar 29 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday received a telephone call from the Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman and discussed the bilateral ties.

The Crown Prince inquired about the Prime Minister’s health and wished him speedy recovery.

The prime minister also inquired about well-being of the Crown Prince since he had recently undergone a surgical procedure.

Attackers damage Hindu temple in Pakistan: Pakistani police

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) — Assailants in Pakistan damaged a nearly century-old Hindu temple in the garrison city of Rawalpindi before fleeing the scene, police said Monday.

The vandals damaged the door and the stairs of the temple in the attack, which took place on Saturday night. The temple was not yet reopened for the Hindu community for worship and was still undergoing renovation, according to local police official Mohammad Toseef Sajjad.

Pakistan: Prosecution failed to prove guilt of main accused in Daniel Pearl case

Islamabad, Mar 27 (PTI) Pakistan's Supreme Court has criticised the prosecution for its failure to prove the guilt of British-born al-Qaeda terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, the main accused in the sensational kidnapping and murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002, according to a media report.

The apex court issued its detailed 43-page judgment on Friday, which has been authored by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood who was part of the three-member bench.

Pak: Qureshi hopeful of Biden admin’s effective role for Kashmir resolution

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Thursday hoped that the incumbent US administration would play an effective role for a peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute as well as for peace in the region.

The foreign minister, in a meeting with US Democratic Party leader Tahir Javed here, said the people holding key position in the Joe Biden’s administration had acquaintance about Pakistan and regional matters, a foreign ministry press release said.

Pakistan calls upon int’l community to mitigate Rohingya crisis

ISLAMABAD, March 24 (APP): Pakistan on Wednesday expressing sorrow over the deaths of Rohingya refugees at a camp in Bangladesh called upon the international community to pay attention to their continued sufferings.

“We are saddened by massive fire in Rohingya camp at Cox’s Bazar resulting in deaths and destruction,” the Foreign Office said in a tweet.

“Our thoughts are with victims & their families. The incident is a sad reminder of continued sufferings of Rohingya Muslims,” it said.

Pakistan to get more COVID vaccine from China by March 31: Wang Yi

ISLAMABAD, Mar 22 (APP): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Monday announced that his country would donate more doses of COVID vaccine to Pakistan by March 31, to help the country fight the coronavirus.

The Chinese foreign minister, in a telephonic conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said that over a hundred countries had approached China to get COVID vaccine but the country would prioritize the fulfillment of Pakistan’s needs, considering the ideal bilateral ties.

Pakistan Day Parade postponed to March 25 for inclement weather

RAWALPINDI, Mar 22 (APP): The Joint Services (JS) Pakistan Day Parade has been rescheduled on March 25, amid ongoing inclement weather and rains being forecast over the next two days.

“The JS Pakistan Day Parade will now be held on March 25, as per programme and timings already specified,” said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) media release on Monday.

Indian troops martyr four Kashmiri youth in Shopian

ISLAMABAD, Mar 22 (APP): Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred four Kashmiri youth in Shopian district, in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Monday (today).

The youth were killed by Indian troops in a fake encounter during violent cordon and search operation at Manihal area of the district, KMS reported.

The identity of the martyred youth s is yet to be ascertained while the operation was going on till last reports came in .
