ISLAMABAD, Dec 1 (APP): World Health Organization’s (WHO) representative in Pakistan, Dr Palitha Mahipala on Tuesday said that WHO was fully committed to continue supporting the efforts of government, civil society organizations and people living with HIV (PLHIV) to strengthen health systems to increase their resilience against the disease.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday said Pakistan attached great significance to its ties with Egypt and desired to further promote and diversify bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interests.

The President said both countries enjoyed close relations which needed to be further strengthened in the areas of trade, cultural and defence.

He made these remarks while talking to Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Egypt Sajid Bilal, who called on him here at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29 (APP): As another manifestation of its support to the cause, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) 47th Session of Council of Foreign Ministers, in its declaration, called for peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute as per United Nations (UN) Security Council’s resolutions.

Named as Niamey Declaration, the document was issued on the conclusion of the 47th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held in Niger on Saturday.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday met United Araba Emetates (UAE) State Minister Reem Al Hashimi and while highlighting the difficulties being faced by Pakistani citizens regarding UAE visa, emphasized their resolution at the earliest possible.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (APP): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday expressed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the Afghan peace process and assured to continue facilitating the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process.

In a meeting with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Haneef Atmar on sidelines of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Niger’s capital Niamey, Qureshi however warned of spoilers who did not wish to see return of peace in the region.

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Tens of thousands of supporters on Saturday thronged the funeral of a radical cleric whose Islamist party has defended Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy law that calls for the death penalty for insulting Islam.

The mourners gathered in the eastern city of Lahore, where the Islamist scholar and leader, Khadim Hussein Rizvi, died two days ago at the age of 54.

Rizvi’s party, Tehreek-e-Labiak, holds only two seats in parliament, but his movement has repeatedly pressed its cause by staging large-scale demonstrations.

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A Pakistani Islamist group called off protests over cartoons of Prophet Mohammad on Tuesday saying the government had agreed to their demand for a boycott of French products, the group’s spokesman said.

Thousands of Islamists had clashed with police on the edge of the capital, Islamabad, on Monday in protests over the recent display of cartoons of the Prophet in France.

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- A passenger van plunged into a ravine in Pakistan's northwest district of Nowshera on Monday, claiming eight lives while injuring 11 others, a government official said.

Women and a child were among the killed when the vehicle tumbled off the Kaka Sahib road in Nowshera, a district in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nowshera Noor Wali Khan told Xinhua.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 15 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood Sunday said that a trade delegation would leave for Afghanistan on Monday (Nov 16) to further boost bilateral trade ties.

The delegation will start discussions on a new era of trade and investment cooperation so that the two economies may integrate more and further enhance our exports to Afghanistan and beyond, the Advisor said in his tweet.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (NNN-APP) – An earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude, hit parts of Pakistan’s south-west Balochistan province today, the country’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre, said.

According to the centre, the quake’s epicentre was located at 38 km north-east of the provincial capital of Quetta, and its focal depth was determined as 10 km.

It happened at 7:56 a.m. local time, with a longitude of 67.34 east and latitude of 30.35 north, the centre said.
