PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Gunmen riding on a motorcycle shot and killed a policeman in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday as he escorted a team of polio workers.

The attack in the district of Karak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province came on the second day of a nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign that Pakistani authorities launched in an effort to eradicate the crippling disease by the end of the year.

RAWALPINDI, Jan 11 (APP): Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar on Monday said the European Union Disinfo Lab had revealed that India had employed the highest intensity propaganda against Pakistan during its 15-year long disinformation campaign.

According to the Disinfo Lab report ‘Indian Chronicles’, the Indian fake media campaign was carried out by Shirvastav Group through false media outlets, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and news outlets, the ISPR DG told a media briefing.

(APP) --- Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday launched Pakistan’s first instant payment system – Raast – to enable end-to-end digital payments among individuals, businesses and government entities instantaneously.

The Prime Minister while addressing the gathering termed the launch a major step forward by the State Bank of Pakistan towards Digital Pakistan and said it would help include the low income groups and make them part of the mainstream economy. He was optimist that it would go a long way in fighting poverty, particularly in the rural areas.

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10 (APP): Pakistan on Sunday said that it was fully abiding its own statutes and fulfillment of international obligations in Mumbai case, which was stalled due to Indian reluctance to  send witnesses.

“The investigations, prosecutions & subsequent convictions, through due process, are a reflection of effectiveness of Pakistan’s legal system, which operates independent of any extraneous factors or influences,” Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.

RAWALPINDI, Jan 08 (APP): A US delegation led by Assistant Secretary of Defence for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs David Helvey, visited General Headquarters (GHQ) on January 7, 2021 to hold formal consultations on Pakistan-US Strategic Level Defence Dialogue.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Chief of General Staff, Pakistan Army Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, said a statement released here on Friday by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

ISLAMABAD, Jan 08 (APP): The national tally of total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Friday reached 33,124 with 2,435 more people tested positive for the deadly virus and 3,313 people recovered from the coronavirus during the last 24 hours.

Forty eight corona patients, 44 of whom were under treatment in hospital and four in their homes or quarantines died on Thursday, according to the latest update issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

ISLAMABAD, Jan 6 (APP): Pakistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Wednesday reviewed the progress made on the ongoing petroleum projects and discussed ways and means to further the existing cooperation in energy sector.

UAE ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi called on Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan here, and showed interest for more investment in Pakistan’s energy sector, a Petroleum Division news release said.

He said the collaboration in energy sector would provide an impetus to economic ties between the two brotherly countries.

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad met with Pakistan's Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday and discussed the Afghan peace process, the military said.

The meeting came ahead of the resumption of intra-Afghan negotiations in Qatar that will focus on reduction of violence and a ceasefire in conflict-stricken Afghanistan.
