PAK: Interfaith harmony imperative for better social, prosperous society: EU Envoy

ISLAMABAD, Feb 7 (APP): European Union Ambassador to Pakistan Androulla Kaminara Sunday said in the modern era, promoting interfaith harmony among different nations and religions was more imperative and a way forward for a better social and prosperous society.

The EU was celebrating the World Interfaith Harmony Week with an aim to found all possible common grounds for religious and social harmony, and its contemporary significance among the people having different religions and cultural values, she said while talking to APP.

Pakistan: Qureshi apprises Icelandic FM of rescue operation for missing climber

ISLAMABAD, Feb 07 (APP): Foreign Minister of Iceland Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson spoke with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on telephone regarding the missing Icelandic mountaineer John Snorri.

Foreign Minister Qureshi apprised his counterpart of the specific steps taken by the Pakistani authorities to search and rescue the missing mountaineers, according to a foreign office press release issued Saturday night.

Qureshi reassured that Pakistan would spare no effort and would extend all possible support in this regard.

Pakistan urges UNSC to exercise legal, moral authority for implementing Kashmir resolutions

ISLAMABAD, Feb 5 (APP): Pakistan on Friday called upon the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to exercise its legal and moral authority for implementation of its resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir dispute guaranteeing an inalienable right to self-determination.

As the country observed annual Kashmir Solidarity Day, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi approached the UNSC President and the UN Secretary General to apprise them of India’s continuing gross and systematic violations of human rights in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3 (APP): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday said Pakistan’s ultimate objective remains the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per the wishes of the Kashmiri people and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council through a free and impartial plebiscite.

“We will not let anyone take away Kashmir from the Kashmiris. This cause and the struggle is just, sacred and non-negotiable,” the Foreign Minister said in his address at a seminar on ’Standing with Unheard Voices of Kashmir’ organized by Institute of Regional Studies.

Pakistani police raid kills 3 suspected Baloch separatists

Multan, Feb 3 (AP-PTI) Pakistani police on Wednesday raided a suspected hideout of an outlawed separatist group in eastern Punjab province, triggering a shootout that killed three insurgents, authorities said.

According to a statement by Kamran Hussain, an official with the counter-terrorism department, officers also seized a cache of weapons allegedly belonging to "terrorists from the outlawed Balochistan Republican Army."

The group is known for targeting Pakistani troops, police and gas pipelines in southwestern Balochistan province.

PAK: Decline in global coronavirus cases shows variants can be controlled: WHO

ISLAMABAD, Feb 02 (APP): For the third week in a row, the number of new coronavirus cases reportedly fell globally, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said Monday, while stressing continued vigilance against the deadly virus.

“There are still many countries with increasing numbers of cases, but at the global level, this is encouraging news”, he said, speaking during the agency’s bi-weekly briefing from Geneva.

KARACHI, Feb 01 (APP): Former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Yaqoob Khan Monday said the silence of global powers over Indian atrocities on the Kashmiris was worrisome.

Addressing a news conference here at a local cricket ground, he said the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) should be revived. The Kashmiri people must be given the right of plebiscite as per the resolutions of the United Nations.
