Security equipment stolen from Israel PM’s home

27 September 2023; MEMO: Israeli media revealed that a young man had broken into a security room in front of the home of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to steal a bag of security equipment. The man was later arrested and charged with theft.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that a 29-year-old man broke into a security room outside Netanyahu’s house in occupied Jerusalem on the eve of Yom Kippur and stole a bag containing “security equipment.” Police interrogated the man on Monday but the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court released him under restrictive conditions.

This is not the first time that a security breach has occurred at the prime minister’s residence. Two months ago, a serious security breach was discovered that allowed access to more than 1,000 city cameras throughout Jerusalem.

The Israeli newspaper pointed out that since 2015 there has been criticism of the ease with which documents are leaked from the prime minister’s residence, pointing out that former Shin Bet head Yuval Diskin criticised the Netanyahu family because of a video clip uploaded on their behalf, revealing parts of the official headquarters.
