India: Abduction drama developed to extract money from parents

Kanpur: A college student from Kanpur staged his own kidnapping after losing money for his fees in an online game.

The first-year BSc student, named Shivshankar, also demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh from his family.

Student's family informed the police, which found him within 24 hours.

This incident took place in the Mangalpur Jaitipur village of Kanpur where Shivshankar's parents gave him Rs 30,000 to pay coaching fee and buy books.

But he lost the money on online gaming and later staged his own abduction to extract money from the family members.

He created a false story of his kidnapping and told family members that the kidnappers were asking for Rs 1 lakh as a ransom, otherwise, they would kill him.

Later on, he called and asked for Rs 12,000 as he had arranged the rest of the amount. After that, his father approached the police station to file a complaint.

He told the police that his son was in the Rura area and urged them to find him. With the help of surveillance, the police were able to locate his son.

During interrogation, the student revealed that he faked his kidnapping as he had lost all the money given by his parents for his coaching fee.

The police are further investigating the matter.
