12 May 2021; MEMO: Former Tunisian President, Mohamed Moncef Marzouki, said that the events currently taking place
in Jerusalem and the Occupied Palestinian Territories expose Arab rulers who are accepting normalised ties with the occupation and feed the rise of a new Arab Spring.
Marzouki told Al Jazeera: "Everybody is following what is happening in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and this will generate major explosions in the region. These populations accumulated a lot of anger, insult, and humiliation, and the Arab leaders who … chose normalisation are now in trouble because they feel that popular anger may explode in their faces."
He continued: "Al-Aqsa Intifada sends another message … if you want real peace, give the Palestinians their rights, dignity, and Jerusalem back."
As "the balances of power have changed", he explained, Arabs have lost all their cards and their ability to apply pressure.
Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper quoted Marzouki warning: "We are now in the accumulation phase for the explosion of the major volcanoes that will sweep the rulers that normalised ties away. We are now in the process of filling the volcano that exploded in 2011, which they were able to extinguish by various means. But this one will lead to terrible explosions in the future."
