19 Members Of Egyptian Medical Team At Matariya Hospital Test Positive For COVID-19

CAIRO, May 14 (NNN-MENA) – The General Authority for Educational Hospitals and Institutes in Egypt, announced that, 19 members of a medical care team in Matariya Educational Hospital, tested positive for COVID-19.   

The authority said that the 19 positive cases were out of 54 samples taken from the medical team.   

The outbreak happened in the hospital in East Cairo, when a nurse contracted the virus from her late father-in-law, who died due to COVID-19 complications, the statement added.

The authority stated that despite the infections, the hospital is still open and sterilisation measures have been implemented. Also, all those who came in contact with the infected members of the team have been tested and the results will be announced within the coming hours.

The announcement by the authority came an hour after Al-Azhar University announced that the number of staff members infected by the virus in its Zahara hospital in Cairo has increased to 135.   

Vice president of Al-Azhar University, Mahmoud Sadiq, said, nearly 85 cases from the medical care team from Zahara university were isolated in Al-Azhar specialised hospital, while the rest were self-isolated in their homes. 

On Sunday, the hospital officials announced that nearly 40 percent of the hospital staff who have been tested for COVID-19 tested positive.

Egypt has so far recorded 10,431 cases, including 556 deaths and 2,486 fully recovered patients.
