Israeli Army Strikes Islamic Jihad Sites In Gaza

JERUSALEM, Feb 24 (NNN-WAFA) – Israeli military said, it carried out airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Sunday night, hours after Islamic Jihad fired barrages of rockets towards southern Israel.

A military spokesperson said, the strikes targeted Islamic Jihad sites.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

At least 23 rockets were fired on Sunday, with Islamic Jihad saying, the fire was a retaliation for the killing of a senior member of the Islamist group.

Israel may quarantine 200 South Korean visitors in army base: report

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel may quarantine some 200 visitors from South Korea in a military base south of Jerusalem over coronavirus worries, Israel’s Ynet news site reported on Sunday.

Israeli officials had no immediate comment on the report. Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said separately on Sunday that he had ordered South Korea and Japan added to a list of Asian countries to which travel to and from Israel was being barred.

Israeli, Italian researchers develop efficient solar method to produce hydrogen

JERUSALEM, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Israeli and Italian researchers have developed an efficient process for producing hydrogen and other products, utilizing solar energy, the northern Israel Institute of Technology said Thursday.

For decades, hydrogen has been considered the future fuel, because its burning only releases energy and water and does not pollute the environment.

Most of the hydrogen is produced from natural gas in a pollutant process, but there is an alternative process of photocatalysis: splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen through sunlight.

Israel to probe failed company of Netanyahu’s challenger

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli prosecutors on Thursday announced the opening of a criminal investigation into the failed start-up of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s challenger, shaking up the final days of what has been a bitter and tumultuous election campaign.

The announcement did not say whether Benny Gantz is a suspect. But it came less than two weeks before the March 2 election and during a campaign in which Gantz’s Blue and White party has painted itself as a clean and scandal-free alternative to Netanyahu, who is to go on trial for corruption next month.

Israel: parliament grants immunity to former minister facing corruption charges

19 Feb 2020; MEMO: The Israeli parliament, the Knesset, granted immunity on Monday to former Labour, Social Affairs and Social Services Minister Haim Katz who is facing a trial over corruption charges, Quds Press has reported.

Katz is a member of the Likud, the party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has himself been indicted on fraud and corruption charges.

Israeli PM Netanyahu's Graft Trial To Open On Mar 17: Court

JERUSALEM, Feb 19 (NNN-WAFA) – Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial is scheduled to begin on Mar 17, two weeks after the country’s parliamentary elections, authorities said.

The spokesperson’s office of the Jerusalem District Court, where the trial is set to take place, said, the long-stalled trial will begin at 3.00 p.m. on Mar 17.

A three-justice panel for the trial was already announced, which includes Rivkah Friedman-Feldman, Moshe Bar-Am, and Oded Shaham — all are judges with the Jerusalem District Court.

Israeli Opposition Leader Urges Netanyahu To Step Down Amid Pending Corruption Trial

JERUSALEM, Feb 19 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s main rival, Benny Gantz, said, Netanyahu cannot carry out his state duties after his corruption trial opens in Mar, and needs to be replaced.

Gantz, leader of the centrist Blue and White party, made the remark, during a campaign rally in the city of Rehovot, south of Tel Aviv, ahead of Israel’s Mar 2 elections, a vote widely perceived as a personnel referendum on Netanyahu.
