05 April 2020; MEMO: The coronavirus outbreak has now killed 46 people in Israel, with 8,018 cases registered so far, Anadolu Agency reported health officials as saying on Sunday.

The Health Ministry said 203 more people tested positive for the virus, noting that out of the total, 127 are in critical condition.

JERUSALEM, Apr 4 (NNN-MA’AN) – A total of 571 people in Israel were tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 7,428, the Israeli Ministry of Health said.

Of the 681 patients being treated in hospitals across Israel, 113 were in serious condition and 155 in moderate condition, it said.

BNEI BRAK, Israel (AP) — Early this week, the streets of the central Israeli city of Bnei Brak were bustling with shoppers as ultra-Orthodox residents, obeying their religious leaders, ignored pleas to stay home in the face of the coronavirus threat.

By Friday, Bnei Brak had become the country’ worst hot spot and now resembles a ghost town. One expert estimated that nearly 40% of the city’s population might already have been infected.

The new figure marks a near eight per cent increase in under a week, taking the number of jobless Israelis to over a million for the first time in the country’s history.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A rising death toll in the coronavirus crisis is forcing a change in Jewish and Muslim burial and mourning traditions in the Holy Land.

In Israel, Jewish dead are normally laid to rest in a cloth smock and shroud, without a coffin. Now, the bodies of coronavirus victims are taken for ritual washing - performed in full protective gear - wrapped in impermeable plastic.

They are wrapped again in plastic before interment.

It said the death toll of the virus in the country has hit 16, adding, of the 527 patients being treated in hospitals across Israel, 79 are in serious condition.

Earlier on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced further measures to tighten the closure in the country.

JERUSALEM, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Israel announces an emergency plan for the labor market after the national unemployment rate jumped more than five times in March, the Israel Employment Service announced Sunday amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The bureau said that the unemployment rate has jumped from 4 percent to 22.6 percent since the beginning of March.

According to the bureau, 781,608 Israelis have applied for unemployment benefits since March 1.
