Some Israeli settlers hit out at Trump-backed annexation plan

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel’s intention to annex parts of the occupied West Bank is being challenged by Jewish settlers who might have been expected to cheer the plan promoted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu under a U.S. peace blueprint.

A month before the proposed expansion of Israeli jurisdiction is due to be discussed by Netanyahu’s new unity government, some settler leaders have resorted to rhetoric likely to embarrass him at the White House.

Israel lawmaker invokes Nation-State Law to prevent Palestinian family unification

03 June 2020; MEMO: Chairman of the Israeli Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, Zvi Hauser, on Monday invoked the controversial 2018 Jewish Nation-State Law to prevent Palestinians from moving to Israel to be united with their families, Haaretz newspaper reported.

The Israeli Knesset voted by a majority of 41 in favour to 13 against extending the application of “the Citizenship and Entry” into Israel Law by a year which prohibits Palestinians from moving to Israel to be with their relatives.

Israel Tests New Ballistic Missile System

JERUSALEM, June 3 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israel has tested a new precise ballistic strike missile, capable of hitting targets in the range of 400 km, Israel Aerospace Industries said, on Tuesday.

The missile is part of a weapon system named LORA (Long-Range Artillery Weapon System), developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, a state-owned weapons and defence company.

The company said in a statement that, two firing trials were carried out in the open sea.

Dozens of Israel settlers storm Al-Aqsa as site reopens

31 May 2020; MEMO: Dozens of Jewish settlers today forced their way into Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque complex, shortly after the site was reopened, according to the mosque director, reports Anadolu Agency. 

“Around 105 Jewish settlers have entered the compound since early morning under protection of Israeli police,” Omar Kiswani, director of Al-Aqsa Mosque, told Anadolu Agency.

The shooting of Iyad Halak, 32, in Jerusalem’s Old City on Saturday, drew broad condemnations and revived complaints alleging excessive force by Israeli security forces.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police shot dead an unarmed autistic Palestinian man in Jerusalem’s Old City on Saturday after saying they suspected he was carrying a weapon.

The shooting drew broad condemnations and revived complaints alleging excessive force by Israeli security forces. On social media, some compared the shooting to police violence in the U.S.

Israel stops call to Muslim prayer at Hebron’s Ibrahimi Mosque

29 May 2020; MEMO: Israeli forces today prevented the call for dawn prayer at the Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied city of Hebron, denying Muslim worshippers access to the site, according to the Wafa news agency.

The Palestinian Authority condemned occupation forces for deliberately infringing on religious freedoms by applying such restrictions.
