Russia refuses Israeli demand to stop jamming GPS of flights into Tel Aviv

01 Feb 2022; MEMO: Russia has refused an Israeli demand to resolve an electromagnetic interference from its air base in Syria on the GPS of planes landing in Tel Aviv, further impacting relations between the two.

According to the KAN news channel yesterday, Israel sent a letter to Russia stating that the defence systems at the Russian Khmeimim Air Base in the Syrian port city of Latakia are causing electromagnetic interference in the GPS systems of planes landing in the Israeli capital.

Israeli defence chief visits Bahrain amid heightened Gulf tensions

JERUSALEM, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz began a visit to Bahrain on Wednesday amid heightened tensions in the Gulf after missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement.

Announcing Gantz's trip only after his arrival in Manama, Israel's Defence Ministry said he would sign a security cooperation agreement with Bahrain, which along with the UAE normalised relations with Israel in 2020.

Israel plans to sell early warning, defence systems to UAE

02 Feb 2022; MEMO: Israel is planning to sell early warning and defence systems to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Times of Israel reported Channel 13 news saying yesterday.

The news sites said talks were underway for the sale of a number of weapons systems to the UAE including some to warn of incoming fire and intercept it.

Currently, the UAE is operating a South Korean missile defence system that it bought after Israel refused to sell defence systems to the Gulf state.

Lawyer with no criminal law experience tapped as next Israel Public Prosecutor

02 Feb 2022; MEMO: Israeli Justice Minister Gideon Sa'ar has tapped former prosecutor Gali Baharav-Miara to succeed Avichai Mandelblit as next Public Prosecutor, local media reported on Monday.

Baharav-Miara has worked for 30 years in the civil division of the State Prosecutor's Office. Her nomination by Sa'ar was widely criticised because she lacks experience in criminal law.

Israel to strengthen ties with Palestinian Authority despite no peace deal: minister

JERUSALEM, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Monday that Israel will strengthen its ties with the Palestinian Authority despite no intention to negotiate a peace deal with it.

The remarks were made at the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, in response to a no-confidence motion over Gantz's meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in recent months.

Jerusalem, Feb 1 (AP) Avram Grant, the former manager of the Chelsea soccer club and one of the most powerful men in Israeli sport, will be investigated by FIFA after being accused of sexually harassing multiple women in an investigative report.

Exposure, a program on Israel's Channel 12 TV, broadcast a series of interviews on Sunday with women saying that Grant had made unwanted advances while offering to help promote their careers. The women's voices were altered and their faces silhouetted to protect their identities.

Israel punishes officers over Palestinian detainee’s death

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military said Tuesday it would reprimand a senior officer and remove two others from leadership roles over the death of a 78-year-old Palestinian who was dragged from a car, bound and blindfolded after being stopped at a checkpoint.

It said the soldiers believed Omar Asaad was asleep when they cut his zip-ties and left him face-down in an abandoned building where he had been detained with three other Palestinians. The other detainees said they did not know he was there until after the army left.

Israel will not commit to any agreement on Iran: Bennett

29 Jan 2022; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has asserted that Israel will not commit to any agreement on Iran, Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post reported.

"The Israeli strategy doesn't depend on whether there's an agreement or not," he told the Israeli newspaper on Thursday. "We will protect ourselves by ourselves. Even if there is an agreement, we're not committed to it. We will preserve our freedom to act."

Israeli Teachers Union Announces Strike Due To Change In Quarantine Policy

JERUSALEM, Jan 27 (NNN-PNA) – The Israel Teachers Union, yesterday announced, the shutdown of schools and kindergartens starting from today, in response to the government’s decision to change the quarantine policy of students.

Under the government’s new outline, planned to take effect today, a student exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 patient will no longer need to enter quarantine, if tested negative by a home antigen test.
