Noida admin invokes NSA against notorious criminal

Noida (UP), Sep 17 (PTI) The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration Monday invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against a notorious criminal involved in a sensational killing in the district in April.

Accused Neetu alias Pradeep, who is currently in jail, has been deemed as a threat to security and public order, District Magistrate Brajesh Narayan Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma told reporters.

"On April 20 this year, Neetu had opened indiscriminate fire on a security official on duty outside a power house in Dhummanikpur in Dadri area. He was demanding power supply in his area out of schedule," Singh said.

"The incident had triggered panic among the locals and his involvement in other crimes in Gautam Buddh Nagar particularly in Dadri and Badalpur area was evident after which he was arrested," he added.

He was held under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and lodged in jail while the case is pending in the court.

The administration has come to know that Neetu may move court for bail and in case if he is granted the bail, he may influence the case and also be threat to security and law and order, the official said.

Certain provisions of the National Security Act prohibit bail to any person with a view to prevent them from causing any activity prejudicial to the security of the state or public order, among others.

Singh added that the NSA has been invoked duly on recommendation by the SSP.
