India: RSS leader's PSO shot dead in Kishtwar

Jammu, Apr 9 (PTI) Suspected militants on Tuesday killed the personal security officer of an RSS leader by snatching his weapon in a hospital in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar town, police said.

The local RSS leader, identified as Chandrakanta, was injured in the attack that targeted him, officials said.

Chandrakanta had gone to a local hospital for a check-up, they said.

India: Disappointed BJP vice-president quits party

Jammu, Apr 6 (PTI) Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, a senior J-K BJP leader Saturday quit the party, disappointed over its "failure" to fulfil promises made to the SC, ST and OBC communities in the state.

Jammu and Kashmir vice-president of the BJP's SC morcha, Narinder Kesar said that he along with his supporters had worked hard to ensure the saffron party's victory in the 2014 elections.

India: BJP ousts Choudhary Lal Singh as party member

Jammu, Apr 4 (PTI) The BJP said Thursday that former minister Choudhary Lal Singh was no longer a member of the party for violating party discipline, said BJP's chief spokesperson in the state Sunil Sethi.

Lal Singh had distanced himself from the BJP last year when he floated his outfit 'Dogra Swabhiman Sanghthan' (DSS).

He filed his nomination papers from both Jammu and Udhampur parliamentary constituencies against official BJP candidates Jugal Kishore Sharma and Jitendra Singh, respectively.

Kashmir: Amit Shah 'daydreaming' about abrogating Article 370

Srinagar, Apr 2 (PTI) PDP chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday said BJP president Amit Shah was "daydreaming" about abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution that provides special status to the state.

Mufti said the Constitutional provision is a bridge between the people of the state and India.

"I want to tell Amit Shah that you are daydreaming if you think you will abrogate Article 370," Mufti said while addressing a workers' meet in Handwara area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Kashmir: Omar welcomes Cong's poll promise to amend AFSPA

Srinagar, Apr 2 (PTI) National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah Tuesday welcomed the Congress party's promise to amend the Armed Forces Special Powers Act if voted to power in the general elections.

"If the Congress has mentioned this in their manifesto, I welcome it. It is better late than never. If they had done this before 2014 (polls), we would have worked to lift ASFPA from certain parts of the state," said Omar Abdullah.

India: Humbled by PM Modi's attention to my speeches: Omar

Srinagar, Apr 1 (PTI) National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Monday said he was humbled by the attention paid by Narendra Modi to his speeches after the prime minister hit out at the Congress over his remarks advocating a separate "Sadar-e-Riyasat" (president) and PM for Jammu and Kashmir.

"I'm humbled by the attention PM Modi pays to my speeches & very grateful to the social media cell of the BJP for highlighting my speech today, especially by WhatsApp'ing it to journalists. Your reach is far greater than mine," Abdullah wrote on Twitter.

4 Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces in Pulwama

According to a PTI report, four Kashmiris have been killed by the Indian security forces in an alleged gun fight in Pulwama district of Indian controlled Jammu & Kashmir.

Indian security forces alleged that they launched a cordon and search operation this morning when Kashmiri separatists opened fire. Indian security forces returned fire killing four Kashmiri separatists.

Their bodies of slain Kashmiris were retrieved from the site of gunfight.

India: Blast in car near CRPF convoy in Jammu

Banihal/Jammu, Mar 30 :  A CRPF vehicle suffered slight damages when a private car exploded after one of its gas cylinders caught fire on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Saturday, police said.

There were no casualties in the incident that occurred near the Jawahar Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district around 10.30 am.

The incident triggered memories of the February 14 vehicle-borne suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy in Pulwama that claimed the lives of 40 personnel.

Three Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces in Shopian

Three Kashmiri separatists were killed by India security forces in an alleged encounter in Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday.

India security forces allege to have launched an anti-separatists operation in Yawran forests in the district following information about their presence, a J&K police spokesperson said.

The slain separatists have been identified as “Sajad Khanday, Aqib Ahmad Dar and Basharat Ahmad Mir, all residents of Pulwama," the spokesperson said.
