Tunisia: The budget deficit delays payment of employees' salaries for the third month

27 Oct 2021; MEMO: The Tunisian government did not pay the salaries of public employees for the previous working month, despite being overdue for 10 days, while experts attribute the reason to the deficit in the state budget.

The working days for salaries are calculated in Tunisia starting from the 16th of the month and ending on the 15th of the following month, while salaries are disbursed after 3 days (18th of each month).

Public employees' salaries are not delayed for the third month.

Ex-Tunisia president calls for suing his successor for 'destroying the state'

28 Oct 2021; MEMO: Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki yesterday called for removing current President Kais Saied, suing him and his aides for "destroying the state and carrying out a coup against the Constitution."

Saied dismissed parliament and seized near total control of the country in July, in a move critics called a coup.

Tunisia imposes COVID-19 vaccine pass on Tunisians and all foreign visitors

25 Oct 2021; MEMO: Tunisia is imposing COVID-19 vaccine passes on Tunisians and all foreign visitors, Reuters reported on a presidential decree on Friday.

Officials, employees and users are required to show a card proving inoculation against the coronavirus to access public and private administrations, according to the decree. The pass will also be required to enter cafes, restaurants, hotels and tourist establishments, it said.

Tunisia parliament calls on president to reverse 'unconstitutional' decisions

21 Oct 2021; MEMO: The Tunisian Parliament called on President Kais Saied to reconsider his "unconstitutional" decisions, and lift the freeze imposed on legislative institutions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the parliament's presidency called on lawmakers to defend their right to work by legitimate legal means and condemned trying officials before military and civilian courts, describing the trials as "unjust" and "politically motivated".

Tunisian FM Meets German Minister To Discuss Strategic Partnership

TUNIS, Oct 20 (NNN-TAP) – Tunisian Foreign Minister, Othman Jerandi, yesterday met with visiting German Minister of State, at the Federal Foreign Office, Niels Annen, to discuss strategic partnership between the two countries, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The Tunisian-German strategic partnership “is witnessing continuous development, that reflects the importance the two countries attach to bilateral relations,” said a ministry statement.

Tunisia: Moncef Marzouki to be investigated

17 Oct 2021; MEMO: The Public Prosecution of the Court of Appeal in Tunis has launched an investigation on Friday into the statements of former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki on French TV channel France24 last Monday.

The official spokesperson for the Court of Appeal, Habib Tarkhani, confirmed that the Minister of Justice Leila Jaffal had ordered the General Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance in Tunis to start an investigation against Marzouki, based on Article 23 of the Penal Code.

Tunisia's Ennahda rejects forming 'de facto government'

15 Oct 2021; MEMO: Tunisia's Ennahda movement yesterday slammed what it called a "de facto government led by Bouden."

In an official statement, the movement said that the formation of the Bouden government was "violating the Tunisian constitutional procedures."

"Losing government legitimacy will exacerbate the challenges and obstacles facing the government in dealing with national affairs and international partners," the statement read.

Tunisia president dismisses director-general of railroad company over train collision

9 Oct 2021; MEMO: Tunisia's President Kais Saied dismissed the director-general of the National Railway Company (SNCFT), Belkacem Taya, on Friday, over an accident in which two trains collided in the capital, Tunis.

On Thursday evening, two trains ran into each other in the southern suburbs of the capital, Tunis, injuring 36 passengers with varying degrees of severity, according to the state company.
