China Donated 100 Commuter Buses To Help Syrians In Economic Woes

DAMASCUS, Jun 30 (NNN-SANA) – Syria, yesterday, received the second batch of 100 commuter buses, donated by China, as part of the Chinese efforts to help improve the livelihood of Syrians, during the difficult times the country is going through.

Chinese Ambassador to Syria, Feng Biao and Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf, attended the delivery ceremony in the capital, Damascus, during which they signed the delivery note and took a short tour in one of the new buses.

War has killed 1.5% of Syria's population: UN

28 June 2022; MEMO: The UN human rights office said, on Tuesday, that 306,887 civilians had been killed in Syria during the conflict since March 2011, or about 1.5 per cent of its pre-war population, in what it said was the highest estimate yet, Reuters reports.

Syria's conflict sprang out of peaceful protests against President Bashar Al-Assad's rule in March 2011 and morphed into a multi-sided, protracted conflict that sucked in world powers.

Syria: Russian base attacked by unidentified militants

22 June 2022; MEMO: A Russian military base in the north-east Syria province of Raqqa has been attacked by unknown armed militants, the Kurdish news website basnews has reported. According to anonymous sources, no casualties have been reported and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Ain Issa.

The Syrian Democratic Forces mobilised in Tal Al-Samman and set up checkpoints in the area as part of the search for the perpetrators of the attack.

Syria halts flights from and to Damascus, hours after Israeli attack

DAMASCUS, June 10 (Reuters) - Syria halted flights to and from Damascus International Airport on Friday, the transport ministry said, a few hours after Israeli air strikes hit south of the capital.

A Syrian military official quoted by the state news agency said Syrian air defences intercepted the Israeli missiles, downing most of them, but that the early morning attack caused one civilian injury and some material damage.

Cham Wings Airline, a private Syrian carrier, said it was rerouting all its flights to Aleppo International Airport.

Syria: Russia redeploys forces to Ukraine

23 May 2022; MEMO: Russian forces are reported to have been withdrawn from Latakia governorate in the west of Syria and sent to the Russian-controlled Hmeimim Air Base on the Mediterranean coast, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported on Sunday. The troops are believed to have been redeployed and are on the way to boost Russia's forces in Ukraine.

Three Killed In Fresh Israeli Missile Strike On Syria’s Capital

DAMASCUS, May 21 (NNN-SANA) – Three people were killed in an Israeli missile strike, targeting military sites south of the capital, Damascus, last night, according to a statement from the Syrian military.

The statement said, the air defences intercepted most missiles, which were fired from the Israel-occupied Golan Heights.

The pro-government Sham FM radio said, strikes at the international airport in Damascus caused a fire near it, leading to the postponement of two flights.

Syria Government page shut down by Facebook for a song glorifying Russia

16 May 2022; MEMO: A song titled "Glory to Russia" in Arabic caused Facebook moderators to shut down a Syrian government page, the local media reports.

According to the report, the song which had been posted on 9 May, the day Russia celebrates defeating Nazi Germany during the Second World War, was put out by Syrian government social media accounts, including one called the Syrian Arab Television and Radio Broadcasting Commission.

US lifts sanctions from areas in Syria under terrorist org YPG control, Turkey condemns move

15 May 2022; MEMO: The United States has exempted territories in Syria run by the Kurdish militia the People's Protection Units (YPG) from wide-ranging sanctions, in a decision which neighbouring Turkey has condemned as an attempt to "legitimise" the group.
