Pakistan court set to hear Sharif's appeal against his conviction

Islamabad, Oct 7 (PTI) A Pakistani court will hear on Monday the appeal of jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif against his conviction in a corruption case.

Sharif, 69, has been serving a seven-year prison term at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore since December 24, 2018 when the accountability court convicted him in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case - one of the three corruption cases filed in the wake of the apex court's July 28, 2017 order in the Panama Papers scandal.

Lockdown in IOK completes nine weeks today

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6 (APP): The lockdown continues on the 63rd consecutive day, today, with all shops, main markets and educational institutions continue to remain shut and public transport off the road in Kashmir valley and parts of Jammu region, in Indian occupied Kashmir.

5 Oct 2019; AA: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday warned against any emotional attempt from the people to cross the Line of Control (LoC) from Pakistan.

Khan said any such attempt to cross the LoC -- a de facto border that divides the disputed Jammu and Kashmir between Pakistan and India -- would affect the struggle of Kashmiris.

Pak says Maleeha Lodhi not sacked; replaced as she completed tenure

Islamabad, Oct 5 (PTI) Pakistan has said Maleeha Lodhi was not sacked and was replaced with Munir Akram after the completion of her tenure as the country's permanent representative to the UN, according to a media report.

Prime Minister Imran Khan in a surprise move this week appointed Akram, known for his strident anti-India stand, as Pakistan's new permanent representative to the United Nations.

The development came a day after Khan returned from New York, where he raised the Kashmir issue in his maiden address to the UN General Assembly.

Pakistan summons Indian envoy over 'ceasefire violations'

Islamabad, Oct 2; GANASHAKTI: Pakistan on Wednesday summoned India's Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia to protest over alleged ceasefire violations by Indian troops along the Line of Control (LoC) that it said killed a woman.

The Foreign Office said that Director-General (South Asia and SAARC) Mohammad Faisal summoned Ahluwalia and condemned the ceasefire violations by the Indian troops in Nezapir and Bagsar Sectors of the LoC on Tuesday.

Jammu & Kashmir internationally recognized dispute; not internal matter of India: President

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi on Wednesday said that India’s illegal and unilateral alteration of the disputed status of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) and its demographic structure contravened numerous UNSC Resolutions, international law and it’s own prior commitments.

He said Jammu and Kashmir was not an internal matter of India, rather it was a longstanding internationally recognized dispute on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.

Pakistan condemns unprovoked ceasefire violations along LOC; summons Indian envoy

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (APP): Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner again and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control (LoC) on October 1, 2019, in which an old woman embraced martyrdom and three other civilians sustained serious injuries.

Director General (South Asia and SAARC) Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia, a foreign office statement issued here said.

Taliban, U.S. negotiator both in Islamabad for talks with Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Afghan Taliban officials were due in Pakistan on Wednesday, the insurgent group said, even as the top U.S. diplomat involved in talks with the militants also met government officials there.

It was however not known if the Taliban and the U.S. official would meet.

The Taliban delegation will be led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, to discuss “important issues” with Pakistani officials in the capital, Islamabad, Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said on Twitter.

Pakistan PM Imran removes Lodhi, appoints Akram as new UN envoy

Islamabad, Oct 1 (PTI) Prime Minister Imran Khan in a surprise move has appointed Munir Akram, known for his hard anti-India stand, as Pakistan's new permanent representative to the United Nations, replacing Maleeha Lodhi, merely a day after he returned from the US.

The Pakistan Foreign Office gave no reason for Lodhi's removal in a statement on Monday.

The development came a day after Prime Minister Khan returned from New York, where he raised the Kashmir issue in his maiden address to the UN General Assembly last week.

Indian troops martyred 16 Kashmiris in September

ISLAMABAD, Oct 1 (APP): Indian troops in their continued acts of state terrorism martyred 16 Kashmiris including a woman and two young boys during the last month of September in Indian occupied Kashmir.

According to the data compiled by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, of those martyred six youth was killed in fake encounters. The killings rendered one woman widowed and two children orphaned, reported KMS.
