Lebanese President Urged IMF To Conclude Aid Deal With Lebanon

BEIRUT, Jul 22 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, yesterday, urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to conclude the aid agreement with the country, saying, Lebanon has been adopting the needed structural reforms.

The Lebanese president made the remarks during his meeting in Beirut with Pierre Duquesne, French presidential envoy for coordinating international support to Lebanon, said a presidential statement.

Egypt Started Reactor Construction Of First Nuke Power Plant

CAIRO, Jul 22 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt began constructing the first reactor unit of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant, sending a signal that, the country’s plan to build its first nuclear power plant is rolling smoothly, the Egyptian government announced yesterday.

El-Dabaa plant, located in the Mediterranean province of Matrouh, some 300 km north-west of Cairo, is Egypt’s first nuclear power station.

Syria’s Air Defences Respond To Fresh Israeli Attacks

DAMASCUS, Jul 22 (NNN-SANA) – The Syrian air defences, responded to an Israeli missile strike, on the Syrian capital of Damascus, late last night, it was reported.

Explosions were heard in Damascus, after the Israeli attacks and the firing of the Syrian air defence missiles, it said.

The Israeli attacks targetted sites in the urban and rural areas of Damascus, according to the report.

Israel has repeatedly targeted Syrian military sites during the 11-year Syrian civil war, under the pretext of targeting pro-Iran militias.

Iran says ready to begin normalization talks on "political level" with Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said that both Iran and Saudi Arabia have voiced readiness to begin their talks on a political level to normalize ties, Iran Front Page (IFP) reported on Friday.

There has been some progress in the past five rounds of talks between the two sides in Iraq, which were held mainly at the security level, namely on security issues, Amir-Abdollahian was quoted as saying.

Turkish forces shoot down 2 drones targeting its military base in Iraq: official

BAGHDAD, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Turkish forces shot down two drones targeting its military base in Iraq's Duhok province on Friday, a local official said.

Two drones targeted the Turkish base in the Bamarne area in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan at 6:30 a.m. local time (0330 GMT), and were shot down by the Turkish forces, Mayor of the Bamarne area Miran Ismail told Xinhua.

There were no casualties in the attack, Ismail said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iraq summons Turkish ambassador over deadly resort bombardment

BAGHDAD, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Thursday handed a sternly worded protest note to the Turkish ambassador, demanding the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Iraqi territory.

The ministry summoned Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Ali Reza Guney over the deadly bombardment on a resort in Iraq's northern province of Duhok, said the ministry in a statement.

Ukraine, Russia set to sign deal on resuming grain exports

World Bank to fund $100m in food insecurity aid to Sudan through WFP

21 July 2022; MEMO: The World Bank has agreed to provide the UN's World Food Programme with $100 million for an "emergency safety net project" to address food insecurity in Sudan, it said in a statement on Thursday, Reuters reports.

The programme, whose funding comes from the European Union, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and several other Western nations, aims to provide 2 million Sudanese with cash transfers and food.
