Palestine: 74% of Gaza reconstruction project complete; UN

27 July 2022; MEMO: The reconstruction of Palestinian houses demolished during the 2021 Israeli bombardment is "continuing," the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced yesterday.

"A total of 364 houses are currently being reconstructed, and about 100 new refugee cases will receive financial aid next week," UNRWA said, noting that "75 percent of the refugees were enrolled in a financial aid programme."

Lavrov arrives in Ethiopia, last leg of his tour of Africa

ADDIS ABABA, July 26. /TASS/: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived on Tuesday in Ethiopia on a working visit, TASS reports from the site.

On Wednesday, Lavrov is expected to hold talks with his Ethiopian counterpart Demeke Mekonnen.

The top diplomat visits Ethiopia on the last leg of his tour of Africa. From Ethiopia, he will travel to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Council of Foreign Ministers.

Syria Handed Over 146 Daesh Militants’ Family Members To Tajikistan

DAMASCUS, Jul 26 (NNN-SANA) – Syria, yesterday, handed over a total of 146 Tajik nationals, who are family members of the Daesh militants, to their home country.

Zabidullah Zabidov, the ambassador of Tajikistan in Kuwait, was in Syria yesterday, to take the Tajik nationals, who had been accommodated in the al-Hol camp, in north-eastern Syria.

The al-Hol camp, which is run by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), is known to be housing refugees, largely family members of foreign Daesh militants.

Israel says Russians fired at its jets over Syria in May in "one-off"

JERUSALEM, July 26 (Reuters) - Israel said on Tuesday that its military jets came under Russian anti-aircraft fire over Syria in May but they missed their target, describing the confrontation as a "one-off incident".

The disclosure by Defence Minister Benny Gantz came amid tensions between Israel and Russia over the former's condemnation of the Ukraine war and the latter's scrutiny of a Jewish emigration agency.
